To play truth or dare as a couple, take turns: one of you picks truth and answers honestly, or dare and does the challenge, then you switch. Start with sweet questions and move up to flirty or spicy only when you both say yes. Give each of you two passes, so nobody has to do anything they don't want to.
Play it right here: nothing is saved, and you don't need an account.

Player 1, truth or dare?
Prefer paper or a list? All 180 truths and dares are below, sorted by level: sweet, flirty, spicy and over text.
How do you play truth or dare as a couple?
You play in turns, and every turn has one choice: truth or dare. With two players there is no circle and no audience, so the game is faster and more personal than at a party. A typical round looks like this:
- Pick a level together. Sweet is the warm-up, Flirty adds kisses and a layer of clothing, Spicy is explicit.
- Decide who starts. Flip a coin, or let the person who suggested the game go first.
- Choose truth or dare. A truth gets an honest answer. A dare gets done right away.
- Pass if you want to. Each of you has two passes per level. A pass ends your turn, with no explanation needed.
- Switch. Now it's your partner's turn. Move up a level only when you both agree.
Playing without a phone works too. Write truths and dares on slips of paper, fold them into two bowls, and draw one from the bowl you choose. There is no fixed end: most couples play until each has had about ten turns or until a level feels done. On the spicy level, the game often ends on its own.
What are the rules for truth or dare with two people?
The classic rules are simple: choose, then answer or do it. With a partner, a few extra rules keep the game fun and make it easier to say yes to the bold cards:
- A pass is a full answer. No guilt, no "come on, just this once". If passes run out, you can still say no; the passes only keep the game moving.
- Go up together, go down alone. Raising the level needs two yeses. Either of you can drop back to an easier level at any time. In the game above, moving up asks you both first.
- What's said in the game stays in the game. Don't bring up an answer later in an argument. If something surprises you, talk about it calmly after the game.
- Stop means stop, even in the middle of a dare.
- Dares stay between the two of you. Skip dares that would embarrass someone else or involve people who didn't agree to play, like texting an ex.
- Truths can be short. Honest doesn't mean every detail. "Yes, and I'd rather not go into it" is an honest answer.
- Keep the spicy level clear-headed. A drink is fine. If one of you is drunk, stay on Sweet, because a yes means less when you're not sober.
Which level should you start with?
Start with Sweet, even if you're sure you'll end up on Spicy. Two or three easy rounds get you laughing and show how open you both feel tonight.
| Level | What to expect | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Sweet | Memories, compliments, silly dares | New couples, a warm-up, any night |
| Flirty | Attraction, kisses, a layer of clothing | Date night, after the warm-up |
| Spicy | Explicit truths and dares about sex | Partners who already talk openly about sex, ending the night in bed |
If you've been together for years, the sweet truths are less about information and more about the present: What do you miss most about our first months together? often starts a longer talk. New couples learn the most on Sweet and Flirty.

How do you play truth or dare over text?
Over text, truths become messages and dares become photos, voice notes or video calls. Turn on Over text in the game above: the truths stay the same, and every dare becomes one you can do from a distance. That makes it a good game for long-distance couples or a slow evening apart.
A few rules help when you play by message:
- Answer truths by voice note now and then. It feels more like playing together than typing.
- Agree on photos before you start. Send only what you'd be fine with if it ever got out. Many couples leave faces out of anything revealing.
- Check the chat before you hit send, especially on the spicy level.
- Never forward or keep a private photo without asking. Delete it if your partner asks you to.
Sweet dares over text

- Send me the oldest photo of us on your phone.
- Text me a song that reminds you of me.
- Send a selfie with the face you make when you miss me.
- Write me a two-sentence story about our next date.
- Send me five emojis that describe us, then explain them.
- Change my name in your phone to something sweet and send a screenshot.
- Send me a photo of what you're looking at right now.
- Record yourself singing one line of our song.
- Text me three things you'd do if I were with you right now.
Flirty dares over text
- Send me a selfie in the outfit of yours I like best.
- Text me the flirtiest pickup line you know.

- Tell me what you're wearing right now, in detail.
- Send me a selfie biting your lip.
- Text me where you'd kiss me first if I walked in now.
- Record a 10-second voice note in your sexiest voice.
- Send a photo that shows a little skin. You choose where.
Spicy dares over text
- Describe exactly what you'd do to me if I were in your bed right now.
- Send me a sexy photo, showing as much or as little as you like.
- Send me a voice note moaning my name.
- Text me your dirtiest fantasy about us in three sentences.

- Send me a photo of the underwear you're wearing.
- Write the opening lines of a sexy story starring us.
- Video call me and take off one item of clothing, slowly.
- Tell me step by step what you want me to do the next time we see each other.
- Send me a voice note about your favorite memory of us in bed.
How can you make truth or dare more fun?
Change one rule and the game feels new. These variations work well for two:
- Truth or drink. Instead of a pass, take a sip. It works just as well with a non-alcoholic drink, or with a spoonful of something sour as the "penalty". There's also a card game called Truth or Drink, which we compare in our guide to card games for couples.
- Strip truth or dare. Each pass costs one piece of clothing instead. Best on the flirty or spicy level.
- Write your own. Each of you writes five secret dares on paper before the game, and the other has to draw one per round.
- Dice for dares. On the spicy level, let the sex dice decide the dare instead of a card.
- Questions only. For an evening that's about talking, try one of these question games for couples, like How Well Do You Know Me? or the 36 Questions.
For a version you can play with friends or a group, SoulmateSystem has a list of truth or dare questions for friends and couples.
Is there a truth or dare card game for couples?
Yes. If you'd rather hold cards than a phone, a printed deck keeps the evening screen-free and makes a fun small gift.

FAQ
How do you play truth or dare with your partner?
Take turns choosing truth (answer a question honestly) or dare (do a challenge). Start with sweet questions, raise the level only when you both agree, and give each of you two passes. The free game on this page handles the turns, levels and passes for you.
What are good truth or dare questions for couples?
Good questions are personal but easy to answer, like "What did you think the first time you saw me?" or "What's a small thing I do that makes your day better?" For more heat, try "Where's your favorite place to be kissed?" This page lists 75 truths across three levels.
What are some spicy truth or dare questions?
Spicy truths ask about fantasies and sex, for example "Which position do you secretly want to try?" or "What's one thing you'd love me to do more in bed?" Spicy dares include stripping, oral sex and teasing. Play this level only if you both want to.
What if my partner doesn't want to do a dare?
Then they pass, and the turn moves on. A no is part of the game, not a failure. If one level feels like too much, drop back to an easier one. You can talk about what felt good and what didn't after the game.
How many passes should each player get?
Two per level works well for couples: enough to skip what doesn't fit tonight, few enough that the game keeps its edge. Even with no passes left, either of you can still say no.
Can you play truth or dare over text?
Yes. Truths become messages, and dares become photos, voice notes or video calls. In the game on this page, switch on "Over text" to get dares that work from a distance. Agree beforehand on what kind of photos you're both comfortable sending.
Can you play truth or dare online for free?
Yes. The game on this page is free and runs in your browser on any phone or computer. You don't need an account or an app, and nothing you play or type is saved.
Is truth or dare good for relationships?
It can be. The game gives you a playful reason to ask questions you might not bring up on a normal evening, and the dares create a bit of excitement. It works best with clear rules about passes and consent. It doesn't replace a real conversation about bigger problems.
